What does a waiter / waitress do?

A waiter or waitress ensures that customers receive food and drinks at a restaurant. The tasks of waiter include taking orders, serving food and drinks, calculating bills and handling payments. A restaurant or catering establishment includes a bar or hotel restaurant, club house, eating establishment, restaurant, cafeteria, roadside diner and café. Some restaurant employees specialise in a particular beverage and are then called sommelier (wine), tea sommelier (tea) or barista (coffee). Often, they have received specific training. As a waiter without specialisation, however, you can often get started right away if you have the right work attitude.
