What does a veterinary assistant do?

As a veterinary assistant, you help the veterinarian in a veterinary practice or clinic. You can also work as a laboratory animal caretaker in an animal laboratory where you help researchers or doctors to take care of the laboratory animals. Tasks consist of feeding pets and other non-farm animals, watering and examining them for signs of diseases or injury in laboratories and animal hospitals and clinics. Cleaning and disinfecting cages and work spaces and sterilising laboratory and surgical equipment. As a veterinary assistant, you might also carry out medical tasks. Such as making x-rays, administering medication and anaesthesia.
