What does a manager do?

What does a manager do? In the management literature this question is often answered with the answer: “Getting things done”. A manager must ensure that the things that have to be done actually happen. But behind this brief sentence hides a wide variety of views on what and how a manager should manage. The question of what a good manager is will therefore be answered differently by many people. In the past, good employees almost automatically became managers. It was seen as a logical next step. But management is increasingly becoming a profession in itself, with associated education and training. Managers are increasingly the people who have to ensure that employees function properly. The manager's role is often more coaching than guiding. On the other hand, they have to have enough knowledge to communicate about the work that has to be done. Many managers are specialized in a certain industry or field and are called, for example, a sales manager, IT manager, project manager, healthcare manager or education manager.

What personality traits do managers have?

There are two characteristics many managers have in common. Managers are often full of initiative (score highly in the ENTERPRISING category) and process-oriented (score highly in the CONVENTIONAL category). Do you have the same personality? Perhaps the profession of manager would suit you.

Will robots replace managers?

Many jobs will be replaced by robots. How robot-proof are managers? The chances of robotisation of a manager’s activities amount to 1%. This means that there is a VERY LOW CHANCE that the tasks and activities performed by managers will be taken over by robots and smart software within the next 20 years.
