As a laboratory technician, you generally conduct chemical or physics lab tests. To support scientists, companies and other clients in the qualitative or quantitative analysis of solid, liquid or gaseous substances, for instance. Often in the context of researching and developing new products or processes. But also for quality checks and enforcing environmental standards for instance, or other work regarding experimental, theoretical and practical applications of chemistry and related sciences. The activities can be very diverse and vary from executing to analytical activities. That depends on the position and the organisation you work for. You usually work in a laboratory, conduct research, note down findings, make recommendations and sometimes implement changes based on findings. Where do laboratory technicians work? That could be anywhere. Both in the business world and for the (semi-)government. For instance, think of pharmaceutical companies, in hospital laboratories, companies in the food industry, chemical companies, universities, at research institutes that conduct tests and experiments commissioned by others and organisations that carry out inspections.
